The mansion overlooking the Aspen mountains was everything I had dreamed of after selling the software company I had built from nothing. Every dollar that purchased it came from years of eighteen-hour workdays, sleepless nights, and sacrifices no one else had made. My husband, Brandon, happily accepted congratulations from friends as though the success belonged to both of us. I let him enjoy the illusion because I believed marriage meant sharing victories, not keeping score. Three days after moving in, however, he casually announced that his parents and recently divorced sister would be living with us permanently.

When I refused, Brandon laughed and claimed the mansion belonged to him because he had “supported” me. The next morning, after discovering he had secretly transferred thousands of dollars from my accounts to his family for months, I contacted my attorney, the bank, and the authorities. By late afternoon, Brandon proudly arrived with his family, only to find the mansion completely empty and a fraud investigation waiting for him inside a single white envelope.
