Hidden General

After five years on classified military duty, I returned to my parents’ home outside Denver without medals or explanations. My sister Tiffany laughed at my simple uniform, my parents called me a disappointment, and the guests happily recorded every insult. Later, I discovered papers showing they planned to transfer my grandmother’s estate entirely to Tiffany. Before I could respond, loud knocks echoed through the house as two police officers entered and calmly asked me to come with them.

Outside, three black SUVs rolled into the driveway. Every guest rushed toward the windows as a four-star general stepped through the front door and walked directly toward me. The room fell completely silent.
