I arrived at my son Garrett’s house carrying his favorite pecan pie,

I left without saying a word, spent the night reviewing fifteen years of financial support, and walked into my bank the next morning to cancel every payment, transfer, and account authorization my son depended on. Garrett rushed into the bank minutes later, convinced I would change my mind, but he had no idea the papers already signed on the manager’s desk were about to end the life he had always taken for granted.
